Milne Photographs
Milne is a juice, concentrate, & puree producer located in Prosser, WA.
I was able to tag along for a number of Milne's company video/photography shoots. These shoots lasted the span of a few days and consisted of waking up at 3am to shoot sunrise to going to bed at 11pm after filming sunset. The duration of our days were spent touring the hot processing plants or holding a reflector out in the scorching heat of the fruit fields. After stirring up a bit of accidental dust from the van, our camera guy was extremely pleased with the hazy and warm lighting effect it was creating and asked that I do it more. I tore off down the dirt road as fast as I could and would jump out at the end to snap a few bts shots. I repeated this process a number of times until the sun had set (the things we do for great shots...). I included a few of my favorites below.
Merchant's Craft Photographs
Merchant's Craft is a new soda line my company designed to replace Western Family. It is exclusively available at locally-owned, independent grocery stores throughout the Northwest.
Originally, my boss wanted to photograph this scene from the Merchant's Craft lifestyle commercial. However, he was unable to because of a transportation miscommunication and as a result, I was able to take his place. I love solo photography opportunities that aren't just bts (behind the scenes) as they allow me to experiment while still trying to achieve what my company originally intended. I was pleased with how my photography turned out as I ran into a few new challenges I'd previously never encountered. For this shoot, I had to stay out of our camera man's way while also making sure he stayed out of mine. It was also rather difficult to get certain shots (mostly with hair in it) in focus because we were driving in a convertible with the top down.
Parkwater Photographs
Parkwater Aviation is provides pilot training for the Quest KODIAK in initial, recurrent and specialty courses. Parkwater is located at historic Felts Field airstrip in Spokane, WA, one of the oldest continually operating airports in the United States.
This project pushed me completely outside of my comfort zone but wound up being extremely rewarding. One frozen day in November, Parkwater called in to our office while I was on shift, alone, to ask if someone could come down to photograph their annual Christmas card. The urgency was because it had just snowed and they wanted to film their Kodiak plane in the fresh powder. Since our main photographer and videographer were set to be out of the office until the next week, I was sent to complete the project. This shoot was different from all of the others because I was in charge of directing the entire shoot which meant instructing them on where to move the plane for certain shots. Below, are some of my favorite shots.
ACCO Photographs
The ACCO (American Childhood Cancer Organization) is the oldest and largest grassroots childhood cancer organization in the United States. They offer community support, information and advocacy for those touched by childhood cancer.
Any ACCO project that I've had the opportunity of working on has been more emotional and difficult than the rest. I will never forget shooting the BTS photos for the video we titled "Super Tyce". On this trip, we visited with two children; Tyson and Kolben. When I first met Tyson (the boy in the striped shirt) I was completely unaware that he was the boy we'd be filming. He was running full speed at an indoor play structure and giggling vigorously. Tyce had been in remission for a portion of the year and his attitude towards the hospital staff said that they weren't just his friends, but very much members of his family. The first photo below, displays the close bond shared by Tyson and a hospital staff member as she colors with him quietly. Kolben had a different story to tell, as his cancer journey had only recently begun. While Kolben seemed much more tired and reserved than Tyson, he had one significant thing in common; his positive outlook on the situation. While his mother told us his story, tears brimmed her eyes and sadness clung to every word.
